Muslim Student Association Hosts "We're Just Like You: The Truth Behind Islam"

February 14th, 2017 - 10:17am

Feeling fearful and uninformed about major political events lately? Confused and unsure what the Immigration Ban really means for you and your family? Have questions about Islam that you felt too shy to ask before?

The Muslim Student Association (MSA) will host an inclusive “We’re Just Like You: The Truth Behind Islam” event where students, faculty, and the public can learn about the misconceptions towards Islam. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions about anything they may be confused or curious about as this will be in a safe and welcoming environment. The MSA will also be sharing information about the recent ban of the seven Muslim countries and laws about immigration.

This event will take place on Thursday, February 16, 2017, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Student Services Center, cafeteria. MSA will join forces with other clubs on campus, like Alpha Gama Sigma (AGS), Associated Students College of Marin (ASCOM), Students 4 Social Justice (S4SJ), and other nonprofit service agencies to provide hope, comfort, and relief during this stressful time.

The event will begin with a thirty-minute presentation about misconceptions in Islam, followed by speeches from keynote speaker, Abdullah Nana, Ph.D., and lawyers from a nonprofit immigration organization. The conversation will then open up to the audience for a Q&A session. Pizza will be served throughout the event.

Students, faculty, staff, and the public are invited to attend this free event. Arrive at any time and participate! For additional information contact Ismail Azam, president of MSA, or visit www.ismailazam.com.
