COM Celebrates Students at Fall 2016 Welcome Week

The Student Advocacy and Activities Office has put together a great lineup of events for Fall 2016 Welcome Week. Events are geared for both new and returning students—there is something for everyone. Students can walk the Road to Success on Tuesday at the Kentfield Campus or Wednesday at the Indian Valley Campus and connect with campus resources, services, and academic programs.

Facilities Master Planning Forums

Faculty, staff, students, and community members are invited to attend upcoming Facilities Master Planning Forums for the Kentfield and Indian Valley Campuses. Broad participation is important as the College moves forward to enhance the educational environment for all who benefit from the many opportunities provided through classes, events, and performances at College of Marin. The forums are open to the public and are free of charge.

Superintendent/President's Fall 2016 Convocation Remarks

Superintendent/President David Wain Coon, Ed.D. addressed faculty, staff, and administrators on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at Convocation. These remarks were delivered after the audience viewed a seven-and-a-half minute video chronicling the tragic events that occurred over the summer. Remarks included a call to action requesting that the dialog continue both in and out of the classroom on how we as a College can better understand each other and our students.

Online Writing Center is Open for Business!

As of today, August 22, the Online Writing Center (OWC) is open 24/7 to help students with writing assignments for all college subjects. Students can get free help with grammar, idea development, and organization, as well as with research and essays. There are self-help materials and instructional specialists (tutors) who respond to student posts within 24 hours. The OWC also assists students with transfer, scholarship, and job applications, including resumes and cover letters.

Passing of Paul Christensen - Life Celebration

Earlier this summer College of Marin lost long-time professor and UPM union leader Paul Christensen.  Paul retired in December 2012 after 40 years of teaching Sociology and Behavioral Sciences.  Paul was highly regarded by his students and colleagues.  I encourage you to read the July 2016 UPM Newsletter which is a memorial issue in honor and memory of Paul’s life work.
