Selected works by local artist and retired COM employee June Yokell will be featured in the Fine Arts Gallery from January 23 to February 23, 2017. The paintings are from a 10-year period, 2006-2016, and are primarily oil on canvas with a few being acrylic. Yokell has been involved with art for the majority of her life. She attended art classes at the Montclair Museum in Montclair, New Jersey; the Boston Museum School in Boston, Massachusetts, and California College of the Arts in Oakland, California where she received her BFA in 1973, and in 1982 received her MFA in sculpture. Over the past 15 years, she has found her voice, inspiration, and direction as a painter. In this retrospective show, her paintings evoke Yokell’s ability to translate art into a complete mind and body experience. Her admiration and appreciation of nature are evoked in the paintings as she incorporates not only what she sees but what she feels, as well. The paintings showcase her ability to blend land, water, vegetation, and sky into an experience that incorporates every aspect of an attuned awareness of the natural beauty that surrounds us.
