Humanities 101 Kick-off Event

October 10th, 2016 - 4:08pm

Humanities 101 is a transfer-level IGETC course designed to orient students to the world of academic discourse, help them gain scholastic dexterity, and enable them to navigate college. Embedding a counselor in each section of Humanities 101 will help ensure that our students are aware of important dates on the academic calendar, transfer requirements / major preparation, resources available on campus, and programs that might benefit them.

Lectures are designed so students can explore a given theme (e.g.) music, sports, food, through various academic lenses so that the purpose of general education requirements and the various disciplines are demystified. Each guest lecturer will also help the students understand skills specific to a given field of study, for both the professional and the learner. In addition, embedded in the assignments and lectures are the academic skills they need, such as note taking, annotation, expository writing, and critical reading. In essence, students will be given the opportunity to practice being successful college students across disciplines while accruing transferrable units corresponding to UC area 3B and CSU C2.

To kick off this exciting work, College of Marin faculty and staff are invited to dinner and a movie.
