The fall athletic season began last week as the men’s soccer team hosted Chabot College. It was the new head coach Jake Morrison's debut game. Morrison came to COM after working for several years as assistant coach of the men’s soccer team at Cañada College. This season the team has four players returning from their 2015 squad. Henry Mata Gonzalez played in all 20 of the team's matches last season and picked up an assist in and two yellow cards. Cristian Diaz Lopez played in twelve matches while Cerbelio Rodas Reyes and Jon Sohaei also had field time last season. The Mariners also have help from William Finnie, starting goalkeeper from the 2014 season who started 19 games and compiled a 10-5-4 record. Finnie saved 96 shots and allowed just 18 goals good for a save percentage of .842 while notching three shutouts as well. While the team is comprised primarily of freshman, many are used to Marin soccer. The 2016 roster has three players from Redwood High, seven from San Rafael High, two from Novato High and a trio from Tamalpais High. Best of luck for a successful 2016 season!
The men's soccer team schedule is listed on the Athletics website; their next home game is Saturday, September 10, at 11 a.m.
