Members of the COMmon Read Committee were so excited to announce at yesterday's Women's History Month celebration the 2017-2018 COMmon Read selection. After receiving over thirty book suggestions for next year's selection, the committee narrowed the list down to three finalists and sent out a survey to the entire college. We had approximately 200 responses. The clear winner was Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race by Margot Lee Shetterly. There are so many curricular tie-ins possible with this book: math, STEM, overcoming sexism and racism, the history of the Civil Rights Movement, and more. The survey results included wonderful messages of support and creative ideas for exploring themes in the books. If you have an idea for an event, project, or activity that you'd like the planning team to consider, please let us know. Here are ideas from last year's COMmon Read.
