It is with a heavy heart that as we begin this new year I inform you of the passing of Julie Oyle, our valued colleague who worked at the Indian Valley Campus for 26 years. The following was provided by Julie’s CSEA family:
It is with great sadness that CSEA announces the loss of one of our most dedicated, longtime, member activists, Julie Oyle. On Saturday, December 31, 2016, Julie lost her long battle against cancer that she bravely fought for many years.
Julie started working at the College of Marin back in August of 1990. She was one of a kind. She was always there for anyone who needed an ear or advice. She started her career at the College of Marin working in the Admissions and Records Office. She then transferred over to the Workforce Development Department as an Administrative Assistant for Nanda Schorske.
Nanda Schorske, Laurie Loeffler, and Julie worked very hard to get the Indian Valley Organic Farm up and running. She loved the garden and would visit it often.
Julie was kind and gentle but still a force to be reckoned with in defending the rights of the students she proudly served at College of Marin’s Indian Valley Campus and on behalf of her fellow classified workers. She always made time to help others and her attention to detail really made a difference in the many, many lives that she touched. Over the past 13 years, Julie served in many different roles in the CSEA organization including Chapter Vice President, Job Steward, Chief Job Steward, Negotiations Team Member, Regional Political Action Coordinator, Insurance /Benefits Committee Representative, and the Region 80 Secretary. She participated in nearly every training opportunity that CSEA had to offer and always made the experience better for the others in attendance. Julie put in countless hours participating in several state and local political campaigns including phone banking to benefit the Novato Unified School District in their Parcel Tax efforts. She won the esteemed honor of CSEA Regional Activist of the Year award in 2005. Julie was proud of her work with CSEA and took the mission of the organization to heart; To improve the lives of our members, students, and community. She embodied that spirit fully.
Julie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. There will be a service at Keaton's Redwood Chapel of Marin on Saturday, January 14 at 11 a.m. The address is 1801 Novato Blvd, Novato, CA 94947. Everyone is welcome to attend! We hope to see you there to celebrate Julie's life. Come in celebration attire.
