Musical Odd Couples
COM faculty member and pianist Jim Stopher explores unusual musical pairings, including a two-movement Beethoven sonata, two short works of Schubert, and two wildly different original compositions. The mismatched afternoon concludes with a collision between the Baroque and Romantic periods in Brahms’s epic Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel.

About Jim Stopher
Originally a pianist, Jim Stopher appeared at age 15 as a soloist with the Louisville Orchestra, performing a Mozart concerto with an original cadenza. He maintains an active career as conductor, pianist, composer, and educator, and has just joined COM’s Music faculty. Stopher graduated from the Peabody Conservatory, where he studied with Gustav Meier, Markand Thakar, and Marin Alsop. A winner of the International Conductors’ Workshop and Competition, Stopher has been a Conductors’ Guild finalist for its biennial Thelma E. Robinson award.
